Meet the Maker
Janelle Slone
First and foremost, I am a mom. My four children will always be my greatest creations. They have taught me to look at the world with a different perspective, and to remember that being playful far exceeds being too serious. My love for them has inspired me find ways to capture them in their full light. I have painted them, made silhouettes of their sweet profiles, taken their hand prints in clay, and preserved memories of them with my photo jewelry. I was lucky to have home-schooled them for 10 years, and now they are grown and succeeding in the big world (except my youngest, Otto, is still with me most of the time). With my rediscovered freedom, I am able to pursue my art once again. I fell in love with pottery in high school nearly 20 yrs ago. Clay is my favorite method of making, but I try to delve into every form because, I know, at the core of creation all mediums are connected. I have thought deeply about functionality of my wares, and refuse to offer anything shy of perfection. Studying human form helps me make better pottery, and patterns from nature inspire my tile designs. I find inspiration in old things, especially books. I enjoy items that have held up to the trials of time and continue to serve their purpose. This is probably due to my love and concern for our Earth. I am a garden-loving vegan, just hoping to make the world a better place. I am simple, hard-working, passionate, and grateful. I know that following your heart is the only way to gain true happiness.  I love what I do, and I hope you do too!
